Fourteen children were arrested in a fire in an industrial unit due to the death of a 14-year-old boy.

The fire in the Fairfield Industrial Park in Bill Quay in Gateshead broke out on Friday evening.

It was deleted, but a body that was assumed that it had been reported by Layton Carr was in the building, said the Northumbria police.

Eleven boys and three girls between the ages of 11 and 14 were arrested for suspected homicide and remain in police custody.

The police said they had received reports on the fire at the location of the southern Banks Tyne shortly after 8:00 p.m.

It has become decay in recent years, with a gatehouse to the depressed location and a number of buildings that have been abandoned.

People who lived nearby said that teenagers and younger children were a “regular event” on the premises.

They also said that fires were common, but what happened on Friday was “exceptional”.

A neighbor told the BBC that it was the “biggest fire” that they had ever seen.

The officials said that the exam of the fire was in an early stage and asked members of the public not to speculate about what had happened.

Det ch Insp Louise Jenkins said it was an “extremely tragic incident in which a boy unfortunately lost his life”.

“Our thoughts are at Layton's family while trying to process the loss of their beloved person.

“Our specialists will continue to support you as you can.”

A police presence remains in the area

A cordon would stay on the spot together with the presence of the police to carry out investigations and “make the public soothing,” said Det Ch Insp Jenkins.

The police appealed to everyone with information to contact.

The police and criminal officers of Northumbria, Susan Dungworth, said their “warm condolence” was at this “devastating time” with the family and friends of the teenager.
