How does the NHL design of the lottery work?

The drawing is carried out in two phases. The first episode of four numbered lottery balls determines number 1 of the overall selection. The second sequence determines which team No. 2 selects.

There are 14 lottery balls for each phase, each number between 1 and 14. They are placed in a machine and four balls are pulled.

A four -digit series is voted against a “reference table”, in which 1,000 possible density combinations are listed in order to determine the team to which the winning combination was assigned. The chances change and the teams are eliminated because each of the four balls is pulled.

San Jose, who had the worst record in the regular season, was assigned to most combinations (185 of 1,000), followed by the Chicago Blackhawks (135) and Nashville Predators (115). The NHL published a complete list of four -digit combinations. So if the four lottery balls 1, 2, 3 and 7 numbered, the sharks win the lottery. All 16 teams that could not qualify for the playoffs can win the NHL draft lottery.
