Liam Elliot Discus Gold Highlights Deerfield-Windsors Grit at State Track Meet-Albany Herald

Locust Grove – Liam Eliot, senior citizen from Deerfield-Windsor, recorded a state championship in the discus of the boys this weekend, and teammates Benson Bridges earned a silver medal in the booth of the boys in the Strong Rock Christian School south of Atlanta. But the Knights' hopes for a team title were overthrown at the beginning of the week when Senior Mason Johnson suffered an injury during a football game.

Johnson, who won three events at the Championship region in April, was expected to be a top candidate in the State in the triple jump, long jump and 300-meter hurdles. He won the state championship title in the 300-meter hurdles in the second year.

“We would easily have second place with Mason,” said Jake Clawson, head coach of Deerfield-Windsor. “But without him we only won a first win.”

This lonely victory came from Eliot, whose winning discus threshold of 142 feet, 4 inches almost 10 feet was further than his regional winner of 132-8.

Bridges loosened 12 feet in the pole vault to second place to occupying-like customs higher than its region of 11-6.

More top performances for the knights were:

  • Ben Everett, eighth place in the 110-meter hurdles
  • Whatley Fountain, seventh in the 800-meter run, fifth in 1600 and third in 3200
  • Ethan Newsome, sixth in 3200 and tenth in 1600
  • The 4 × 800 relay of the boys from Jack Moore, Mangham Pippin, Ethan Newsome and Whatley Fountain took second place and set a school record with a time of 8:21 – 25 seconds faster than with the same boy in April.
  • The 4 × 400 relay team took eighth place.

On the side of the girls, Ella Bridges took fifth place in the pole vault, Ginna Davis finished fifth in the high jump, and the 4 × 800 relay team took seventh place.
