Rugby 101

Before you immerse yourself in the Major League Rugby Action, Chicago Hounds General Manager and CEO James English breaks up some of the most important rules of the game.

Hustle: The Scrum is a competitive method to reset the game. There are usually eight per side – eight forward on each side – to see who wins the ball.

Lineout: A means of restarting the game after the ball falls out of the field (Touchline). Prehand meeting in a line on each side on which the hooker of a team throws the ball into the middle. Each team uses various formations to pick up the players, call up the ball and bring them back into play. Which hooker of the team throws the ball into the lineout is cumbersome.

Evaluation: There are three ways to score in rugby. Contact: Rugby is a contact sport. The players grab their shoulders and wrap their opponent's legs to bring the ball carrier to the ground. It forms a jerk, just as the game goes through phases of possession and the game.
