Atalanta fan was stabbed with Inter Milan supporters in clashes

A 26-year-old Atalanta fan was stabbed in Milan supporters in Bergamo in clashes.

It was a disturbing continuation of fan violence in Italy, where last month 13 police officers were injured in front of the Rome Derby for collisions between Roma and Lazio.

The Atalanta and the Inter fans got into a dispute in a pub in Bergamo on Saturday evening after one of the Inter supporters had provocatively planned, said the head of the Carabinieri police, Carmelo Beringheli.

The confrontation was then continued in a street near the Atalanta Stadium and it escalated to violence when an Inter fan replaced the Atalanta fan, he said and added that emergency services arrived quickly but could not save his life.

A boy in his late teenagers had been arrested and said that he acted to protect his brother, added Beringheli.

At the beginning of their 4-0 victory in Monza, Atalanta fans developed a banner on Sunday in memory of the murdered fan.

“What happened to our fan must never happen again,” said Atalanta Manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, in a press conference after the game.

There was no official comment from the club for the incident.

In 2023, a supporter of Paris St. Germain in Italy was seriously injured in Italy after being stabbed against AC Milan before a Champions League -Match during the fans.

A 58-year-old fan in Newcastle United was also brought to the hospital this year after he was stabbed from the eve of another Champions League game in Milan by hooded attacks.
