The swans that had incubated 11 eggs were fatally shot in Newport in a “cruel attack”

The police appeal to information after two nesting swans were “illegal” in Shropshire.

The two swans had incubated their eggs on a nest in the Newport Canal in Victoria Park, Newport, when they were killed.

The Telford and Wrekin police believe that both swans were shot with an air rifle between April 30th and May 1st overnight.

The rural crime officer of the West Mercia, Graham Donaldson, said that the swans were discovered near her nest with clear visible injuries to her neck.

A spokesman for Telford and Wrekin Council said: “We look at the video surveillance of the area at the most important times and appeal by everyone who can lead us to who executed this cruel attack.

“A little consolation in this sad story is that the eggs that were left behind by the murder of the swans have been brought to an incubator and we hope that they will have survived.”

The swans had 11 eggs nesting when they died.

The eggs were brought to Shropshire in Cuan Wildlife Rescue.

A Cuan spokesman said that his egg -in -in -the -art was too small to fit all 11 eggs and has introduced a fundraiser since then to finance a new larger egg incubator “urgently”.

Although the fundraiser has set a target of 300 GBP, it exceeded £ 2,000.

City councilor Thomas Janke commented on the incident and said: “These beautiful swans were an estimated part of our local environment, which were admired by many who went through the channel regularly.

“You will be missing from everyone who visits our channel tow path.”

He asked everyone to contact the relevant authorities with information.

The Newport Safer Neighborhood Team continues to examine the killing.
