Trump says we could “go away” from Russia-Ukraine talks

The United States could withdraw from the peace talks with Ukraine and Russia if the two sides cannot make progress in the termination of their three -year war, said President Donald Trump.

Trump made the comments during an interview about NBC's “Meet the Press”, which was broadcast on Sunday, and said, host Kristen Welker that there is “enormous hatred” between Ukraine and Russia.

The president says that he was still confident that a peace agreement is possible, but confirmed that the United States would not remain a mediator for an indefinite period.

“I think we're closer to a party. And maybe not so closely with the other, but we have to see,” said Trump. “Five thousand soldiers die on average per week. They are not American soldiers. But I want to solve the problem.”

“How long do you give both countries before going away?” Asked Welker.

“Well, there will be a time when I will say, okay, do it, continue to be stupid,” replied Trump.

“Maybe it is not possible,” he added. “There is an enormous hatred. Only so that you understand kristen, we talk about an enormous hatred between these two men and between some of the soldiers, frankly between the generals, they have been fighting hard for three years. I think we have a very good chance to do it.”

The interview comes just a few days after Trump asked Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked if his Russian counterpart has an interest in peace.

Trump is there

Trump spoke on social media last week after the Russian armed forces had launched rockets in the Ukrainian cities.

“There was no reason for Putin to shoot rockets in civilian areas, cities and cities in the past few days,” wrote Trump. “I think he may not want to stop the war, he only takes me with me and has to be treated differently by 'banking' or 'secondary sanctions?' Too many people die !!!

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio also seemed to alleviate expectations for a large peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia last week.

Rubio argued that it was “silly” to set a certain date or a certain timeline if the United States could withdraw from mediation, but he said that this would be “a very critical week”.
