A man was accused more than four years after the death of a woman during the kayaking for murder and fraud.

The 55-year-old man, who now lives in Thailand, was arrested on Sunday during the visit to Brisbane.

The 54 -year -old woman drowned in kayaking with the man at Lake Samsonvale north of Brisbane in November 2020. The couple was known to each other.

The woman could not be revived when, despite spectators and emergency services that performed CPR, she returned ashore and she died at the scene.

“At first, the death of the woman did not seem to be donors,” said the Queensland police in a statement.

However, a coronial examination led to detectives declared them suspicious and the Operation Victor Harlow started.

The “complex and lengthy” probe collected witness and expert statements, including information about the conditions of the lake at the time of the woman's death.

“The police will say that the man is involved in the drowning death of the woman,” said the police.

The man was charged with murder, fraud and attempted fraud.

He was denied the deposit of the police and appeared in Brisbane in front of the Magistrates Court on Monday.
