78-year-old man met in the truck and killed by commuter rail in Cohaset

A 78-year-old man is dead after a commuter train has hit a pick-up truck that was stopped on the tracks in Cohaset.

It happened shortly after 11.15 a.m. near Beachwood Street.

A preliminary investigation said that the man went through the crossroads and other safety lights that worked at that time. The Greenbush line of the commuter rail hit the man's truck. He died of his injuries. His identity was not published.

“In the name of the TPD and the entire MBTA organization, we offer the family and friends of the deceased our sincerely condolences,” said the MBTA in a statement.

The residents of the area said they were scared when they heard a loud bang.

“We were in the house and just heard a loud crash,” said neighbor Kate Struzziero. “We saw the car that had been hit on the driver's side on the driver's side and then in front of the car, and the kind of face upwards, right next to the car.”

“I said it looks clear to me that he was gone and the car also smoked, so I thought it was sure that someone was nearby,” said Phil Struzziero.

The district prosecutor of the transit police and the district in Norfolk are investigating the incident.
