NC Governor Stein Stein, despite $ 110 million in new grants

Josh Stein, Governor of North Carolina, said that there is still a need for financing for small companies, although recent announcements will contribute 110 million US dollars in two grant programs.

In cooperation with the Dogwood Health Trust and the Duke Endowment, a state program has preceded the distribution of 55 million US dollars directly into the pockets of 2,812 local, small companies.

A separate program of 55 million US dollars offered by the Department of Rural Economic Development of the Ministry of Commerce is currently taking on applications from local governments for grants for the reconstruction of public infrastructure, which are of crucial importance for small companies.

“If you are a small company and receive a scholarship that will help you make the salary statement, but the sidewalk is completely destroyed outside your business, you will not be able to be successful,” Stein told News 13.

The program, which is open to Helene, is open for projects that range from water and sewer to broadband, will distribute up to $ 1 million.

“This will help the cities to rent this contractor who can build this infrastructure that will support the entire economy of this community,” said Stein.

The grants that are awarded on the basis of First Come, first-service base are implemented in projects that support small companies with 150 or fewer employees.

The financing comes from the first Helene Recovery Bill from 2025. A spokesman for Buncombe County said that the district is planning to apply.

Stein told News 13 that he was not ready with the support of small companies or Helene Relief. He is preparing his request to the General Assembly for the second Helene Relief account this year.

“We have started to put together the structure of our request,” said Stein. “We have preliminary discussions with the legislator, and I hope that we will address our additional appropriation in the next few weeks or two.”
