With the spring golf season, the golf trainer of Alpena High School Boys Tate Skiba is optimistic in the direction of his team.

When Skiba had a strong start, Skiba found that the first tournament score achieved a team last season this year – a sign that the team's offseason is preparing.

“There was a certain positive growth,” said Skiba. “Our first tournament value was better than any team score that we had last year, so we showed some solid starts.”

Nevertheless, Skiba emphasized that success on the course requires more than just technical skills. The development of the mental side of the game has become a main focus for the coaching team.

“The first step to achieve good results is of the opinion that you can achieve good scores,” said Skiba. “We often had low numbers on the scorecard, and then we start thinking and the moment comes to ourselves. Knee shake, rhythm changes and our good day melts.”

In order to combat these pressure situations, Skiba and his employees simulate the scenarios in practice with high missions to learn to maintain the players, focus and maintain a focus and serenity.

While the team is preparing for the regional tournament at the end of May, the ultimate goal will continue to be prepared for the state final.

Skiba recognizes the strength of the competition, but claims that a constant improvement is the key to success.

“The boys know that they have to see some improvements before the tournament,” he said. “We preach a message about incremental progress – a few recordings – until one once sounds their best round after a bad day.”

One of the outstanding players this season is Kaleb Werth, who has picked up a golf club for the first time two years ago. He has already recorded the lowest individual score of the team this year. Another player who shows a consistent development is Junior Carter Koproski, who dropped his scores every season and this year as a newcomer to the 80s.
