Larry Henderson, deputy of the Sheriff Hamilton County, who was killed by the driver

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office office identified the Veteran Deputy on May 4, who was hit and killed two days earlier as Larry Henderson near the University of Cincinnati campus.

Henderson retired in December after working for 33 years at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, according to a Facebook post on December 20 of the department. He worked as a bomb technician and was a member of the diving team who carried out water rescues and searches. After retirement, he continued to serve as a special MP.

He still worked traffic details like the outside of an opening ceremony on May 2 at the University of Cincinnati, where he was fatally hit and killed.

Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey described him as an “enormous person”.

“He was so popular and known,” said McGuffey.

“In the early term of Deputy Henderson as the deputy of the sheriff, I recognized his talent for teaching and the presentation,” she said in a press release.

“Larry started his journey as Sheriff's Office coach at the beginning of his career. He developed an expertise and became an excellent coach. Then he trained the Sheriff's split office of the sheriff by Hamilton County, which included hundreds of deputy sheriff.

Before Henderson's name was published for the public, the praise for him and his work spread among friends and colleagues.

“This is devastating. I had worked with him since we were young police officers,” said Newtown, Tom Synan, in a Facebook post. “Always one of the first to look up and help them. They didn't have to ask for him, he was already there.”

Governor Mike Dewine and First Lady Fran Dewine expressed their sympathy in a statement on Friday evening.

“Fran and I are sad to learn about the deputy of the Hamilton County, who was hit by a vehicle and killed today,” said Dewine in the explanation. “I was informed about the ongoing investigations and I am sick through an intentionally act of violence. We offer the family, friends and colleagues from the deputy of our sincerely.”

Henderson had previously been hit by a car

Henderson had previously been served by a car. In 2015, Henderson and another MP were hit by a car that lost control and turned out when they examined a crash on the ramp. Henderson received minor injuries, including cuts and bruises. The other deputy suffered a broken leg.

The sheriff said Henderson's drawing number, #129, would be in retirement.

“We would like to thank our co -officers, parishioners, family members, friends and everyone who offered condolences and support in this incredibly difficult time,” said McGuffy. “Please keep the Henderson family and our department in your thoughts and asked. We will share burial regulations in the near future.”
