President of the opposition party USR occurs weakly

Elena LasconiThe President of Save Romania Union (USR) has resigned from the helm after the weak score that she received in the first round of the presidential elections.

Lasconi, who lost the support of her own party for her presidential offer one month before the elections, collected around 2.68% of the vote. In the presidential round in November 2024, she won 19.17% of the votes and was on the road for a second round against Pro-Russia Călin Georgescu when the constitutional court decided to display the elections with regard to the concerns regarding the disruptive interventions in the process.

“It was time for a difficult decision. I step back from the position of the USR president. I think this is correct, natural and good at this time. I step back and know that I did everything in my power last year to do Romania better,” wrote Lascial -Media post.

The mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, is to take over the USR's interim president.

The party's political committee will meet today to validate his support for Dan in the second round of the presidential elections.
