Madden Monday: Penguins that separate with Mike Sullivan.

When Pittsburgh Penguin's general manager Kyle Dubas discussed Mike Sullivan as head coach last week, he said: “Sometimes the class needs a new professor, and sometimes the professor needs a new class.”

In the “Madden Monday” podcast this week, Mark Madden said of 105.9 times and trilive that this was the only reasonable way to look at the situation.

“I think Kyl's description of the Sullivan situation was correct,” said Madden. “If at all, it increased my idea that Sullivan should have been years earlier – probably when Dubas took over the job (2023). I have confidence in Dubas' process and what he will do to set the next coach.”

I asked Madden if he thought, the owner of Steelers, Art Rooney II, would ever use a similar strategy with Mike Tomlin.

“No, never,” Madden insisted. “And the penguins with Sullivan only emphasizes how ridiculous it is that (the Steelers) Tomlin, no matter what happens, is a very similar situation and very similar CVs. Although I see Sullivan as twice as high as the hockey trainer that Mike Tomlin is a football coach, Tomlin has never been a good coach.”

Now that Greg Popovich resigns as head coach of San Antonio Spurs after 29 years, Tomlin is the longest head coach in all important North American teams. Despite the fact that he has not won a playoff game since the 2016 off -season.

Madden has progressed several reasons for this mentality of Rooney II.

“First of all, the Steelers just don't fire their trainers,” said Madden. “Secondly, (Tomlin) has the national media absolutely buffaloed … but there is this penetrating idea that if they win a championship, they should be used for life. Your mercy period should not go longer than the next season, maybe not even.”

Similar to Tomlin, Popovich went in the last eleven seasons of his career without going beyond the first round of the playoffs.

Sullivan, who accepts the Rangers head coach in New York, is not quite sure how to do it.

“This is not an ideal situation. It is definitely a bad changing room,” said Madden. “They got rid of some of the boys who did it bad, like Jacob Troubba, who was revered as the leader. This shows how confused this dressing room was that they would worship this cheap artist as the leader.

Madden insists that Sullivan will not be bad.

“The only thing he has is is an excellent goalkeeper.” But they didn't beat the playoffs this year, and I think there are some work to do. “

Madden and I also speculate in the podcast on the way outside over the sharpness between Sullivan and Dubas. We talk about Paul Slenes' recent issues, reporting on the media about the pirates and the M3 Rock Festival in Maryland.
