The Chinese citizen was depressed by falling glass, ministry examination to death

The Department of Vocational Security and Health (OSH) of the Ministry of Labor has initiated an investigation of the workplace accident, which led to the death of Chinese National Eddie Yang, a resident of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at around 11:46 p.m. in a storage facility operated by Zheng Xin aluminum alloys and Windows Processing Factory in Lot 26 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, the Ministry announced in a statement last night. According to reports, a large amount of glass in a 40-foot container was unexpectedly collapsed in front of the premises and catch Yang underneath.

The local employees quickly loosened an alarm and worked on the rescue of Yang. Then transported it into a nearby health facility. However, he was declared dead upon arrival.

As part of the Act on Occupational Safety and Health, Chapter 99:06 of Guyana's laws, the Ministry has initiated an investigation by the senior occupational safety officer, Darwin Bourne, and the OSH officer Ray Hosannah. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure the complete compliance with the safety regulations in the workplace.
