Area club plans kentucky derby watch party | News, sports, jobs

Pat Cook, Barbara Kent and Ann O'Dell took part in the Kentucky Derby Watch Party of the last year.

Mayville – A party of the Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Mayville VfW Post 8647. The Mayville/Chautauqua Lions Club organizes the event with a broad -screen TV, a special derby -style buffet and a price for the best hat. A donation of $ 20 on the door and a 50-50 raffle helps the Lions to support a local veteran group that deals with stress-related problems.

Last year the derby party was a great success. People who were dressed in bright colors and cheered on their favorite horses with friends while enjoying a complete buffet with chicken wings, salads, fried shrimp and cupcakes. Coffee, tea and water are made available. Remember this year that outfit creativity is the key – so everything works. To improve the excitement, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages can be bought from the bar, including special mint juleps.

All income is donated to the Dwyer Peer Support program, which helps veterans deal with the effects of PTBS & TBI. It is a confidential program that was created in 2013 and enables veterans to meet other veterans in a safe, comfortable atmosphere without being afraid of reprisals.

Come and join the club to watch fun and excitement, like the 151st Kentucky Derby. Wear your broad hat and take on living colors. It will be a day to just have fun.
