Less than three months after the death of his father, the Bronx rapper announced that his mother, Marie Del-Carmen Cartagena, died at the age of 77.

“This is a real, peace in peace for the woman who brought me to this world,” Joe wrote on Saturday (May 3) in a warm Instagram post and paid the woman who shaped his life. “She didn't have much, but she gave us everything.”

According to the moderator, his mother was known for staying near her roots and had a deep love for her community.

“She refused to take off the projects for many years, even though I had money,” he continued. “She loved her community, she loved her people – Mrs. Ruby, the queen of the terrorist.”

Her death follows the death of Joe's father, Ernesto “Cuba” Cartagena, who died at the age of 89 after being married to Marie for 60 years. Joe believes that his mother died in a broken heart.

“My father wanted her with him,” he wrote. “I have to thank the father, my God, for having her in my life in my life for so long.”

In his tribute, Joe extended the broader family – “to the Castro family, the Cartagena family, the Delgado family” – and wrote directly to his mother: “Mom until I see you again. You were my world, my heart, my everything. I will continue to make you proud.”
