A crash in which one woman and two more were injured could have been caused by a medical emergency, the Roanoke police said.

The police said their officials had answered the location for the report on an accident with two vehicles for the first time.

“The driver of the first vehicle, an older woman, died at the scene,” said RPD. “Two women in the second vehicle were brought to a local hospital to treat injuries.”

The police identified the woman, who died as a 79-year-old Kathleen Diane Witt, and said she had believed that she had suffered a medical emergency before the crash.

“For the time being, the deceased has a medical emergency and started traveling on the wrong side of the street before colliding head -on with the second vehicle,” said RPD.

The crash is still being examined.
