Man who was arrested on the British cruise ship because of the murder after the death of a man | UK News

A 57-year-old man was arrested on a cruise ship for murder after the death of a 60-year-old man.

The man died in what the police said that it was an “isolated incident” after an argument that took place two and a half hours after the start of the cruise, while the ship was still in British waters.

The ship MSC Virtuosa returned to Southampton, Hampshire, and the police arrested a man from Exeter to the Docks. He remains in police custody and detectives asked for people who were on board and had information to contact them.

The Hampshire police said: “The ship left Southampton on Saturday, May 3, at 6 p.m.

“As part of our inquiries, a 57-year-old man out of exeter was arrested for suspected murder. He remains in custody at that time.

DCI Matt Gillooly, the leading investigative, said: “We would like to assure you that this seems to be an isolated incident on board, and we would like to thank the crew for your cooperation and support in our inquiries.

A spokesman for MSC Cruises who owns and operates the ship said: “After an incident on board our ship, the responsible authorities were contacted, and we fully cooperate with their investigations. We offer those who are affected to support those affected.”

The ship had left Southampton on the way on a two -day trip to Bruges. On a Facebook page for the ship, the administrator said: “Nobody has to speculate about an ongoing police investigation. Thoughts are with the family and the friends affected.”

The ship that the company is cutting as a “masterpiece at sea” can bear 6,334 guests and 1,704 crew members. There are 2,421 cabins. The cruises include trips in Europe and the Caribbean.

It has four pools in which more than 1,000 guests, 21 bars and 11 dining rooms can be accommodated, including a new Indochine restaurant. The ship was officially named by actor Sophia Loren.

Lynda Hardiman-Pearce, a passenger on the ship, said she saw five police officers in Southampton Docks when she got out. She said that the cruise was “full of hen and deer parties”, and she had told an army doctor who tried to help the died man.

The police said: “If someone who was on board has information that could help, please contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary under 101 with reference 44250193676.”
