Things rating: Edox Grand Ocean Power Reserve Automatic

The Edox The Grand Ocean Collection has been around for a while, but the Swiss brand recently put new energy into its Hybrid Sport/Dresswatch collection. I had to check a number of the new 40 mm widths Edox Grand Ocean Power Reserve automatically Watches and were pleasantly surprised on several fronts. The Grand Ocean certainly has some small quirks that range from its unorthodox case shape to some of the unnecessary labels on the dial. Against this background, I found the comfort, the charm and the intellectual qualities of the Grand Ocean Power Reserve. These are watches that should not be overlooked by the community, especially those who are looking for something practical that is not general.

Most of the Grand Ocean (and other EDOX models for this matter) that I have seen in the past are much larger. Edox produces a 43 mm wide version of this case as a Grand Ocean chronograph automatic. The automatic of the Grand Ocean Power Reserve is much smaller and dainty in comparison. It is a 40 mm wide clock that actually seems to be worn smaller. This is mainly due to the wider bezel and the relatively narrow strap, which is about 18 mm wide on the routes and is tapered to a width of about 16 mm.

Visually, the overall design of the Edox Grand Ocean seems to be a tribute to the long -standing collection of Roger Dubuis Excalibur. There is the “Third Lug” structure and part of the bezel design. The Grand Ocean is not a direct copy of the Excalibur, but indicates its shape while it is a completely different product. The polished steel case is also available in two PVD-soaked colors, including black and rose gold tone. A slightly arched sapphire crystal is above the dial (which ensures a high-end look). The Grand Ocean is also a legitimate sports watch with a sewing crown and 300 meters of water resistance. The 40 mm wide housing is 13.4 mm thick and has an approximately 48 mm long distance from Lug-to-Lug to Lug to Lug.

On the back of the housing there is an interesting motif in the rose style in the rose style, which is placed over the sapphire crystal exhibition window of the movement. This is just one of the various decorative elements that add flair, an important part of the personality of the Grand Ocean product family. If you want a traditional -looking diving guard in a tool style, Edox has covered you with other products that you manufacture. The Edox Grand Ocean Power Reserve Automatic Watch Family debuts with five models – most of them are shown in this article.

The modest housing, mixed with the narrow rubber belt, ensures a very comfortable wearing experience. While I think additional colors (not just black) have made for beautiful belt decisions, the high -quality rubber -strays are safe and smug on the wrist while they offer all -day comfort. I am not always a fan of watches like this, which are applied to the operating closure (I think that simple pin buckle can be better for sports watches), but I didn't have any problems that automatically wear all day over the Grand Ocean Power Reserve.

As the name of the watch implies, the dial has the time (with seconds at 9 a.m.), date and performance reserve indicator. Although this is an automatic movement, I love the presence of power reserve indicators and they are my favorite complication. All of this is thanks to the use of Edox by the automatic movement of Sellita SW 279-1 (which EDOX calls its caliber 945). The movement works at 4Hz with about two days of electricity reserve. I think this is still a relatively new movement because I have not yet seen it in other watches. In recent years, Sellita has expanded the variety of movements it does, and I love that brands like Edox use their new layouts to create convincing new watch creations that offer dial designs that are fresh and useful for consumers.

As I mentioned above, while I like the polished hour and readable hands in Dauphine style, I think that the automatic watch leaves of the Grand Ocean Power Reserve have an unnecessary text. I will say that in real conditions a large part of this text is more difficult to read and is not particularly pushy. Nevertheless, I don't think so much detail about the water resistance assessment or the “Power Reserve” label to print the dial. This is also a relatively small problem that is hardly a deal breaker. It would also have been nice that the date window would be a suitable color for the dial, but EDOX would have created at least three completely different date wheel colors for the current collection for the Grand Ocean Power Reserve. Even if some of the hands and small points are around the periphery of the hour markings Super-Luminova, this watch does not have the darkness ability of other, more dedicated sports watches. This is okay, because the Grand Ocean Design should really be a fusion of clothing and sports observation sensitivities.

The retail costs of the EDOX Grand Ocean Power Reserve Automatic are lower than the larger chronographic automatic model and relatively consistent under the different models. Against this background, there is a bonus of $ 100 for the PVD-coated steel cases in contrast to the three steel models, by nature. On the market is Edox (as the older and much more established brand) above the prices of many new micro brands, but less than most brand names “Big Box”, which many people find in the retail environments of the watch business. Price for the Edox Grand Ocean Power Reserve Automatic watch Is $ 2,790 USD In steel and $ 2,890 USD In PVD-coated black or rose gold tone steel.
