Sheriff identifies 2 men who have found the dead NW from Wolf Creek

Great Falls-The two men who were found dead in Lewis & Clark County were identified as a 61-year-old Scott Marvin Steinbach and 64-year-old Ty William Steinbach.

According to Lewis & Clark County Sheriff/Coroner Leo Dutton, the two men were brothers.

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 6:50 p.m., the dispatchers received a call in which two deceased men were reported in a residence north of Highway 200 near the L&C Road.

The MPs who reacted to the scene discovered an internal house fire and at least one deceased person at home.

“Information was that a person was shot and possibly gave a different shot,” said Sheriff Leo Dutton.

During further investigations, the MPs found a second victim.

“We found a deceased person there and began to search in the area and find another person who was shot,” said Dutton.

The sheriff's office has confirmed that Ty died of gunshot wounds and was the type of death murder and says that Scott is a suspect in Ty's death.

“A family feud was probably fatal,” Dutton told MTN News on Saturday.

Leo Dutton said on Monday that Scott had died through suicide after killing his brother Ty.

The autopsy report for Scott from the State Crime Lab in Missoula stated that he had died of a self -inflicted gunshot wound.

“After Scott shot his brother Ty, he found some petrol and poured it onto his body in the house, then lit the fire,” said Dutton.

The brothers' parents were at home when the fire was lit. The mother tried to extinguish the fire and put on her body.

“A hired hand pulled Ty's body out of the fire so that it was not burned beyond the recognition, but received some brands,” noted Dutton.

Dutton says Scott died by suicide shortly afterwards.

Both parents made it out of the house and the mother was brought to a medical facility for treatment.
