LeBron James confirms the knee injury, the benches for Met Gala | WTAQ News Talk | 97.5 FM · 1 p.m.

The superstar of Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James, said that because of a knee injury he had suffered last week, he would not take part in the Met Gala on Monday evening.

James was previously announced as honorary chairman for the legendary fashion event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

He also noticed that his wife Savannah will be present in New York City.

“Unfortunately, because of my knee injury at the end of the season, I can visit the Met Gala in NY this evening because so many people asked me and congratulate me!” James posted on X.

James' Tweet confirmed an earlier report that he suffered his injury in game 5 of the Western Conference First-Round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves ended the series in this game on Wednesday with the kind permission of a 103-96 win.

James was injured after the Minnesota -Wachmann Donte Divincenzo collided with his knee, while in the fourth quarter he lay a movable screen with 8:39. James immediately left the game and had his knee examined before returning to the competition with 7:23 to play.

The 40-year-old James, an average of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 70 games in 2024-25 to manage to the top 22 in every category.

His contract includes a player option of 52.6 million US dollars for the next season and ESPN reported on Thursday that the Lakers expect to play “at least one more NBA season”. It would be his eighth with the Lakers.

James is a 21-fold all-star, four-time MVP and four-time NBA champion, which is the leading scorer of the league with 42,184 points.
