Durham teen killed | The managers of the community focus on young people after the 16-year-old's death by gun violence on gun violence

Durham, NC (WTVD) – While the Durham police are investigating the circumstances in connection with a shootout that experienced the life of a 16-year-old at the weekend, the lawyers for weapon violence react to the tribute that he accepts to young people in the community.

“You need a lot of support,” said Scott. “Summer is just around the corner. It gets hot. The schools are ready to leave out … We have to do something.”

Scott, who created United Hoods of Durham, is one of many resources in the community that focuses on dealing with young people and keeping themselves away from crime.

For years, Scott has been in some of these municipalities on -site where there has been gun violence to reach young people and speak to them in order to better support them and to give away free books.

“I'm a grandfather. I have two toddlers. I don't want you to grow up in a world like this,” said Scott.

Scott said his heart breaks his heart when the community continues to deal with weapons.

“We need people who volunteer to go on these streets and talk to these young people,” said Scott. “Let us find some options for resources, some activities for these young people so that you do not have to deal with gun violence so that you do not have to fall back on gun power.”

Until April 26, the Durham police report that 8 people under the age of 18 have been shot this year. The number is less than this time last year when the Durham police reported 10 people who were shot under the age of 18.

“As a community, we lost a young person together,” said the mayor of Durham, Leonardo Williams. “It is more and more frustrating that we only recognize the alarm when it happens and I am more interested in who attaches the alarm when our children are alive.”

Williams said that a collective measure would take to try to further reduce gun power, and has given an update via the Bull City Future Fund, which aims to support non -profit organizations that concentrate on the commitment of young people.

“We are in the process of serving hundreds of children in this first financing,” said Williams and added that there will be further details in the next few months.
