The Kenny Atkinson from Cavs wins 2024-25 NBA coach of the year against Bickerstaff, Udoka

After a historical season for Cleveland Cavaliers, Kenny Atkinson was appointed coach of the NBA of the year.

Atkinson is the first Cavaliers head coach to win the prestigious price since Mike Brown in 2009.

Atkinson, who was appointed head coach of the Cavs before the season, after spending the Golden State Warriors assistant in the past four years, Cleveland led to a 64:18 record, the second best in franchise history.

The Cavaliers had not won more than 60 games since Lebron James' MVP campaign in 2009/10.

Cleveland had a historic start under Atkinson, won his first 15 games and brought the second best start to a season in NBA history. The Cavs ultimately cooled down a bit, but stayed over the top of the Eastern Conference rating all year round.

The enormous regular season ultimately caused Cleveland to secure her first place in the number 1 in the playoffs since 2016 when she won a title.

Under Atkinson, the Cavaliers had one of the best crimes in NBA history and ended an offensive evaluation of 121.7 via NBA.com. This assessment is the second highest in NBA history, only behind the Boston Celtics 2023-2. Cleveland was also solid in the defensive end and achieved a defense assessment of 111.8.

Cleveland was in a good place before Atkinson has reached the post -season in the past two years, but Atkinson brought the team to the next level. Now the cavaliers seem to win a title for the first time in years.
