A shooter suspect was killed in a change of shooting on Monday morning and an officer was injured.

Muskegon Heights Police Department (MHPD) reacted to a shootout in the Baker Street near East Barney Avenue and killed a shooting suspect after shot another officer and fled out of the scene. When two MHPD officers went down in an alley in the Wowden Street near East Hovey Avenue, they ordered him to drop his weapon, but instead he started the officers, who then fired their weapons.

The suspect who was taken to the hospital with the ambulance, where he later died, said MHPD official, and the injured officer was released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Officer shot was the first in the scene at 7:45 a.m. and was on his way to work when he met a disturbance in the Baker Street scene. When trying to help, there was a change of shooting between the officer and the suspect. The injured officer was able to call information about the shootout for other officers who arrived on site to provide help.

Around 7:51 a.m. the same suspect was seen as he shot in a passing vehicle in the Reynolds Street near East Hovey Avenue and missed the passengers inside. At the scene of the original shootout, the officials reacted to the shots and, according to the MHPD officials, went in search of the suspect who had fled the Reynolds Street.

The search ended in the Howden Street Alley, and later MHPD found that the suspect had an arrest warrant against his arrest for assault, assault, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a “fourth habit criminal offender”.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is currently responsible for the investigation.

The officials who have released their weapons at the suspect were put in the administrative leave per department directive.
