Family remembers woman who was killed with domestic violence if incident

Indianapolis – A family in Indianapolis remembers that her beloved person shot in an incident with domestic violence at the weekend.

Sapanna Harris-Williams was the oldest sibling.

“She was a person. She was a woman. She was a mother. She was a sister, a daughter. She meant a lot of people and the fact that she was taken away by us,” said Doris Middleton.

Doris Middleton loved her big sister Sapanna Harris-Williams.

Sapanna was shot on Indy's southwest side on Saturday.

The police arrested and accused her friend of the murder.

“The situation that happened to her was not the first situation of domestic violence. This was not the first and it seems as if many women who are in situations with domestic violence end in other relationships,” she said.

She said that women in domestic violent situations often have the feeling that they are mentally caught.

It is a tragic cycle Middleton hopes to help others get out.

“It's not normal. You have to get out. You have to get out of yourself, cannot stay because there will be a trickle effect. Your children will influence if you have some.

Danyette Smith, director of domestic violence at the city of Indianapolis, said that Indy increases an increase in domestic violence.

IMPD reacted to more than 28,000 domestic violence calls last year.

“If you can easily make this first call, this is great to save your life,” said Smith.

“Know that you are not alone, that you are not the only one,” said Middleton.

Both women say there are resources out there and sign them, family members and friends have to look out.

“We know that there are many reasons why people stay in domestic violence in situations, and some of these reasons could look like they don't know what resources are out there, but then other reasons could be that if they put their hands into their hands if they do not respect me and humiliate me, that's love for them,” said Smith.

“These come from deeper roots, where does this come from? Connect to an agency. In this way you can dig a little deeper to see which roots you feel that it is okay to be okay, because even if this is the cause, and maybe it is a story. Smith continued.

“Things that make you think that it is very unhealthy that you are struck or you know that you are not respected. And that is the greatest, some of these signs can be overlooked,” added Smith.

Sapanna will always be remembered.

Your family with a message of no fear of getting help.

“There are still people who make an eye on it because I don't want to get involved or that is not my business or you will still return, and the next thing you know will be killed. You know that someone is in a really bad situation and you know that domestic violence is a problem,” said Middleton. “We need more awareness. We need more. People are active and involved so that this ends.”

Since this incident, Indy Champions has received at least a dozen claims for help.

Both women emphasize the importance of looking for help.

“I just want to let the family know that my heart, my prayers for this family, for everyone who is connected to her. It is never easy to go into a scene or even try to continue the work that someone has lost his life through domestic violence, but also to the community and those who still know that there are resources,” said Smith.

As far as the suspect is concerned, the family said that they would have to forgive him, and his family is also sorry.

“As angry I am, I have to forgive you, and I'm also sorry for his family because they lost someone because he is locked up. Every party is affected,” said Middleton.

At this point, WRTV only names him until the formal charges are submitted by the public prosecutor.
