Vatican city – Before he died, Pope Francis donated one of his Popemobile to be converted into a mobile health unit to serve the children of Gaza, officials said on Monday.

The branches of the Jerusalem and the Swedes of the Vatican Caritas Charitable Federation published photos of the redesigned vehicle on Monday. However, there is no word if it could be used. The donation was announced on the same day, where Israel approved plans to confiscate the Gaza Strip and to remain in the Palestinian area for an unspecified time.

“If the humanitarian corridor is reopened to Gaza, he (the Popemobile) will be ready to give children in Gaza the primary health care,” said Caritas Jerusalem in a statement.

The vehicle is equipped with equipment for diagnosis, examination and treatment. Caritas said it would have test devices, seam kits, injections and needles, oxygen supply, vaccines and a refrigerator.

“This vehicle represents the love, care and closeness, which has shown its holiness for the most vulnerable that it expressed throughout the crisis,” said General Secretary of Caritas Jerusalem, Anton Asfar.

During the Israel war in the Gaza, Francis became increasingly open in his criticism of the hard tactics of the Israeli military and at the same time demanded the return of hostages from Hamas on October 7 last year.

He repeatedly spoke about the emergency of the people in Gaza and had a nightly ritual that he even entertained in the hospital in February: he would call the lonely Catholic Church in the Gaza Strip to see how people were inside.

Francis died on April 21 at the age of 88.
