Minnesota Lacrosse Community organizes a fundraising campaign for the player who was injured during the training

A lacrosse player in Minnesota is in the hospital that recovered from a traumatic brain injury.

The 15 -year -old Blake Sundby was hit in the head with a Lacrosse ball last month.

He wore a helmet, but suffered a traumatic brain injury and had to be flown and then intubated.

Sundby plays for Sartell, but his story has been resonance with the Lacosse community throughout the state.

In a game of Rogers-Maple Grove on Monday evening, the Rogers Royals Lacrosse Booster Club organized a fundraising campaign “Bucks for Blake”.

“This is Minnesota. We do that,” said Josey Castellanos, the director of the club. “We personally don't know Blake, but he is a lacrosse player. We love Lacrosse players. We just want to go out and gather behind him.”

The Rogers Club is giving away from gift baskets and collected money to help Sundby's medical editions. Castellanos says they have collected about $ 1,600.

Sundby's father, Nick, said in a text to the WCCO that his son was no longer in a critical condition.

“We were overwhelmed by the amazing support of so many!” Sundby wrote. “The Lacrosse community is more than astonishing! Blake will have a very long way in his recovery, but we will be every step of the way with it. It means that the world has also had such a large group of support.”

Parents say this could have happened to any of their children.

“Injuries are something that they always fear as a parent, and we feel for everyone in our lacrosse community that goes through something as traumatic as Blake,” said Erin Schindler from Maple Grove.

There is an online fundraising campaign for the Sundby family, and Blake Sundby's mother has released daily updates on a Care and page page.
