ADVERTISING

An alleged front page of the French Satirical Weekly Magazine Charlie Hebdo circulates online, mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the death of Pope Francis.

In the picture we can see a caricature of Zelenskyy, which holds up the body of the late Pope in the Vatican Bank. He hides behind the Bishop of Rome and encourages his body like a puppet.

“I am, Pope Francis. Please transfer all my money to Ukraine,” says the Cartoon Zelenskyy.

The accounts that share and comment on the front page criticize Zelenskyy and accuse him of demanding money from world regulations and using Ukraine's defense against Russia's war.

It is a common accusation that critics of Ukraine are trying to raise against the Ukrainian president in order to weaken the support for Kyiv.

But that's all wrong: firstly, we can easily check whether the image is authentic by visiting Charlie Hebdos website – There is nowhere to be found.

It was allegedly published on April 23, 2025, but the list of Charlie Hebdo's latest publications shows us that the real edition of April 23 looks completely different.

The edition number is also wrong: the real cover shows the number 1709, while the fake is called 1710.

The real edition deals with the death of the Pope, but mockingly says that his successor will be “really close to the arms” by portraying him as a rat.

The rat says: “In addition, I am reactionary, hostile to women and homophobic.”

Many of the accounts that share the fake front cover online are pro-Russian and regular disseminators of the Kremlin propaganda that try to discredit Ukraine.

Charlie Hebdo himself has it before gave out a warning that pro-Russian actors use his image to create anti-ukraine content.

“Russian propagandists create fake Charlie Hebdo title pages so that the newspaper Putin supports,” said the magazine.

“During the process is not new – there is a lot of fake Charlie Title pages – it is surprising to see that it still works, “added.

Eureverify has already exposed Other cases From false Charlie Hebdo editions that reduce Zelenskyy. In this case, Zelenskyy was portrayed as Quasimodo, a character from Victor Hugos “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, again as part of the efforts to humiliate him and the wider Ukraine.

It was generally shown that Russia tried to damage Ukraine's support by spreading propaganda that Zelenskyy represents as a monetary possibility unit who deprives taxpayers.

This special fake Charlie Hebdo title side is particularly striking because it combines two figures that have been falling to Deepfakes in recent years: President Zelenskyy and Pope Francis.

The former has become a main goal for misinformation in general since Moscow launched his full invasion in February 2022.

Such false stories, how he accuses him of extending the war and questioning his motives for financial support, are increased if even top-class politicians worldwide like US President Donald Trump. I called him a “dictator”..
