The community calls for stricter bullying guidelines after the death of a student of the Amelia High School

Amelia, va. (Wwbt) – The noises of sniffing fill the auditorium of the Amelia County High School, and there is no dry eye in sight when John William Tyrcha's family reminds you from the moment you have found it.

“I didn't have to say how I didn't want to know how,” said John's father John Tyrcha, “I have what I had to know and that was that my son had taken his own life.”

“Last week I watched our family went through the unimaginable. It started with John's mother when she found her son's lifeless body,” said John's stepfather Randy Aigner.

April 25 changed this family forever. On Monday, John's father and stepfather stood in front of the school authority and told them that they believe that bullying had pushed their child over the edge.

The news of his death led to the families in Amelia County. Many of them expressed their concern about school bullying on Monday evening.

Including a mother who said her son was best friends with John, but she had to move after he had also been bullied.

“After broke his jaw in the halls of this high school,” said the woman. “Nine hours of plastic surgery, plates to keep his jaw together.”

Some read letters from students who felt uncomfortable, while others resigned after the resignation of superintendent Dr. Lori Harper demanded. They claimed that not enough to create a safe learning environment for students.

“I would like to demand the immediate resignation of Dr. Harper,” said a member of the parishion.

Dr. However, Harper and her employees presented the resources to support bullying, including the campaign, speaks systems for bullying. This is an anonymous guideline, but Community members say that it is not enough.

“As a school, we have to bring things on the screen and schools,” said a member of the parishion.

Another big concern is why writing on the bathroom wall, in which it was: “John T Kys Now”, which means that “killing himself now” was not immediately removed.

According to department heads, this is due to the fact that graffiti incidents were not adequately reported in their system at school.

“Writing on the wall was undoubtedly a pressure factor for the decision of this child to end his life,” said a member of the parish. “The letter should have been removed or painted immediately.”

The school authority listened to every problem and added that the schools had to inform the parents within 24 hours of reporting on a statutory bullying incident. You say you work with the administration to ensure that the accountability is available for bullying.

However, they did not give a clear direction about how this moves forward.
