Two drivers die after the “catastrophic” 11 -bike crash at the British Superbike Championship -Sport

After a “catastrophic” collision, two motorcyclists were tragically killed in which 11 drivers were involved during a British Superbike event.

The 21 -year -old Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson (29) suffered fatal injuries in the terrible accident, which as competitors on Monday (May 5th) took the first corner during the British Support championship of the Quattro Group.

The couple belonged to almost a dozen drivers who lost in the round in the course of the race in the Oulton Park, Cheshire – with engines that can reach up to 200 hp to 200 hp.

The boy from Crowborough, East Sussex, was crowned for the British GP2 champion in 2024 after completing 18 wins of 20 races, and was signed at Rapid Honda.

Richardson, driver number 28, was also brought to the medical center with “serious breast injuries” and died tragically while he was brought to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The New Zealand native was part of the Astro JJR Hippo Suzuki team.

A third competitor, 47-year-old Tom Tunstall, also suffered considerable back and belly injuries during the dangerous bunch and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Another five drivers who had minor injuries were cared for in the medical center, while three more had escaped the incident.

The Cheshire police examined the crash

The Cheshire police have initiated an investigation by the incident, with the troop said that it would work with the forensic doctor and racing officer.

“The police investigated two deaths on behalf of the forensic doctor after a multiple collision in Oulton Park this afternoon,” said the Cheshire police.

“The motorcycle racing control board and the motorsport vision racing examine the complete circumstances of the incident in connection with the Coroner and Cheshire Police.”

The tributes are flooded for the deceased drivers, and the Australian competitor Ben Currie said that the loss was difficult to put into words in a moving Instagram post.

“Duck out for everyone involved,” he said. “Two of our best men have lost the sport we love.”

In a statement by Motorsport Vision Racing it was stated that the fatal collision took place when the drivers “Turn One referred to in the first round as Old Hall Corner”.

“The race was stopped immediately and the medical services were initiated,” says the organizers' explanation.

“Due to the extreme severity of the incident and the ongoing medical intervention, the rest of the Bennett British Superbike Championship Event was canceled.

“This catastrophic accident tragically led two drivers to be fatally injured and suffered another significant injuries.

“The motorcycle racing control board and the motorsport vision racing examine the complete circumstances of the incident in connection with the forensic doctor and Cheshire Constabular.”
