The contractor based in Hearst faces a fine of $ 50,000 for injuries to work

Hearst, ont. – Building contractor C. Villeneuve Construction Co. Ltd. From Hearst, Ont. faces a fine of 50,000 US dollars after a worker was injured in 2023 in the company's Driftwood quarry.

According to a bulletin of the ministry, on September 12, 2023, a worker near the folding catwalk platform cleaned up on the side of a screen box/shaker in the quarry. The screen box was excluded and de-energy, but the feed conveyor who fed the screen box was not the case.

Therefore, the company could not ensure adequate machine protection that corresponds to section 196 (3.1) of the regulation 854, mines and mining systems. This is a criminal offense in accordance with Section 66 (1) of the Law on Health and Security.

After a guilty claim at the Provincial Criminal Court in Cochrane on February 4, 2025, the company was punished by the Peace judge Thérese Bérubé.
