The month of water security shows the importance of teaching basic skills before the summer months

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) – The month of May is the water security month to recognize the popularity of swimming in summer and to draw attention to more people how to stay safe around the water.

Drowning in childhood is an epidemic of public health. It is the main cause of unintentional injury in children between 1 and 4 years in the United States. According to CDCkill three children average every day. So the water security month is about saving life!

A recently carried out survey showed that two thirds of the families want to spend time near the water this summer, but only a third of the parents are confident in their children's swimming skills.

Learning swimming and practicing water security at a young age is important to prevent drowning, especially if you have toddlers – who are usually adventurous and move quickly! Studies have shown that swimming lessons can reduce the likelihood of a child by up to 88%!

The international water security day is May 15th. It is a day when drowning and water security are definitely possible.
