All inbound lanes in Touhy – NBC Chicago closed

All inbound lanes on the EDENS Expressway at Touhy output were blocked on Tuesday morning and the traffic is expected to grow for hours because a serious crash with a semi -car and another vehicle was involved overnight.

“This is a large traffic warning and a complete closure of the EDens,” warned the NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin.

The crash took place shortly before 4 a.m. in the incoming streets between Touhy and Peterson and Lincolnwood, said Martin. According to Trafficnet, one of the vehicles caught fire and was damaged.

At least one person was seriously injured, said Martin.

Photos and video from the scene show important backups on the incoming page at the Touhy output, with several emergency vehicles block all lanes towards the south. The Semi could be lifted under the transfer in Touhy.

The other vehicle, the black sedan, was in a ditch, said Martin.

From 5:30 a.m., traffic on Dempster was secured, and the drivers were instructed to step out in Touhy West and then climb back to the highway at the south of the transfer.

Martin said that the incoming EDens could be closed for up to five or six hours due to the crash.

“This is all the morning commuting,” said Martin.

The crash comes when the large building on Kennedy Expressway continues in and from Chicago, whereby the inbound Express Lanes will be closed by the end of 2025.

No further details were given. This is a developing story that is updated when further information is available.
