Material 3 expressive design and leaks

Google's large I/O 2025 event is just around the corner, and the AI is obviously dominated the main keynote, which normally focuses on the upcoming version of Android. Google will still talk about Android at I/A, although the focus is on the AI. The main functions of Android 16 by consumers are expected to be presented before the keynote begins. Android 16 is scheduled to start this summer before the Pixel 10 start.

As it turns out, we do not have to wait for the I/A to learn that Google is planning a large Android redesign. It is called material 3 expressively and is officially thanks to a Google slip-up. The company accidentally published a blog post in which the material 3 was expressively outlined and describes what the user interface for Android apps has revised.

Google has recorded the blog post, but the internet never forgets. The Wayback machine it has already archived, and 9to5google Saved images from the post.

This is not the first redesign of Google for Android. It started in 2014 with material design, followed by a large update in 2021 called Mational You.

Material 3 expressive is the natural development of it. In the now deleted blog post, Google has developed the new design after he had carried out 46 separate studies in the past three years to better understand what users want from a mobile user interface.

Among other things, Google Eye-Tracking used to see what people concentrate on focus groups to form the new material 3 expressive design language. The company also measured how quickly users could navigate in a new user interface and how they felt about experience.

Google wants Android to be more dynamic and less “clean” and “boring”. This probably explains the strong colors and shapes shown in the pictures from the blog post.

While the new user interface of Google emotions contests, it should also make Android apps easier, regardless of whether they are a power user or someone who is still getting used to smartphones. Google even won a few bumps at iOS and Android 16S highlighted more appealing compared to Apple's interface.

What does material 3 mean in practice? Android 16 users see redesigned apps, starting with Google. Expect new menus, such as a pilly floating toolbar on the ground, which does not extend over the screen. This toolbar will contain larger, more prominent buttons that use users more intuitively.

Menus and buttons in general will be larger and more noticeable. Google has shared an example of a music app in which the “Playing” button is much larger than on the iPhone, which makes it easier for users to recognize them and tap them on them.

Another example comes from an e -eMail app, in which the “Send” button is not only larger than the iPhone counter, but is also placed directly above the keyboard and not in the upper menu.

This is the jumping point where the material is “expressive”. The user interface uses color and shape to lead users faster and more effectively. According to Google, the new material enabled 3 expressive e -mail apps to “Send” the “Send” button four times faster when testing.

You will also see this approach in other Google apps, as shown in the blog post. It is a preview where the design of Android apps leads.

Google will probably express materials 3 for all pre -installed apps on Android 16 phones, especially pixel devices. Developers of third-party providers have to decide whether to take over it, and the same applies to Android phone manufacturers with their own apps.

You can read Google's blog under this link while it is still archived. The company will soon be released. Google I/O starts on May 20 and we will then learn more about Android 16 and the new design direction.
