The Atlanta police authority publishes a viral dance video to help with recruitment efforts

Atlanta, GA. (Atlanta News First) – A catchy recruitment video of the Atlanta police department makes online waves with thousands of views.

The department leaders say that they hope that it will not only bring more civil servants to the department to fill their ranks, but also to humanize the officers who are already working there for recruits and the community.

“We wanted people to be attracted to our department. We wanted to find various tools to win people to apply for the police of the city of Atlanta.

Before the video, Murphy said that they have received 5,000 applications since January and have hired 118 of them. She said in 191 currently in the police academy, 25 others in the pipeline.

Officer Kevin Moody said

“I am glad that people can see us as humans and not just as a police officer with a badge,” he said.

With regard to open positions at APD, Murphy said that they will stop for many different roles within their 22 special units.

“When the World Cup comes and Atlanta grows every day and so that the city grows, the department has to grow. So we will continue to hire until the mayor tells us that we are good, but until then we are open,” she said.

In response to some of the negative comments that the video asked why the department spends time and resources for it, Lt. Murphy has difficult since 2020 that the hiring of police officers was difficult, so they have to become creative to attract people.

“Humanizing and showing that we have hearts, we have empathy, we understand that they know that people see that they can feel safe,” she said.
