Students who return from the basketball tournament under 8 dead in the crash of Kansas

Two students from Oklahoma who returned from a youth basketball tournament were among the eight who were killed in a rural motorway in Kansas in a crash.

Donald “DJ” Laster, A Student from Booker T. Washington High School, Former Coach and Teacher Wayne Walls and Transportation Employee Ja'mon Gilstrap-All of Whom Were affiliated with Tulsa Public Schools-Died in A Two-Vehicle Collision on Sunday, May 169 Outside of the Town of Greeley, CBS Affiliate Kotv, Fox Affiliate WDAF-TV and NBC Affiliate KSHB registered.

A 9th grade of the Union's public schools also died, said the school district. According to reports, there are also three other people. One person survived and was taken to the hospital.

This Sunday Gilstrap drove the people from the schools to the south on the highway when he entered the trail to the north to survive another vehicle, Kansa's Highway Patrol told Kotv. An oncoming vehicle in the lane towards the north tried to avoid Gilstrap, but collided the two vehicles.

“I am broken with a broken heart for those who have lost relatives and have committed myself to honor the immense collective effects of each of these people in Tulsa and in the life of our young people,” she continued. “I pray for their families and everyone involved and hope that others will continue to come with our students, team members and families who are injured.”

In a statement published on Facebook, the superintendent of Union, Dr. John Federline, her condolences after the 9th grade, which had not been identified, was killed. The school district found that they were activated by their crisis reaction team and that the advice had been provided.

In a video by Tulsa Public Schools that were shared with CBS News, Laster, Ron Horton, described him as a committed student athlete.

“He was after his friendliness and the way he made children feel comfortable,” said Horton. “You just felt so comfortable in the DJ. He always smiled.”
