If I had written Taylor Swifts 'Best Day' Song :: wral.com

I am grateful for the many precious memories I had with my mother before Alzheimer finally took her 2½ years ago. When Mother's Day approaches, a special special one is in my mind.

When I was about 10 years old, Mama and I had a special occasion to participate together that would be a challenge for us. I had grown beyond the age of a cute little girl and was not a participant. I would only be a viewer. It broke my heart and mums.

Mama knew that I would not receive a costume like the right featured girls and decided that I would also have a very special outfit. You and I have identical outfits! Mama had a local seamstress who made us suitable wrap rockers in a light fabric that we selected (thank you Diane von Furstenberg!). Then Mama found light green polo shirts, the coordinated. And we each have white sandals.

That day I felt so proud and special. It took the stitch away.

This memory makes me think of Taylor Swift's “The Best Day” song about her mother. Taylor sings that girls are in common at school, so her mother takes her on a trip to go shopping and distract you and feel better. I was so happy to have this kind of mother.

Hard times are a little easier, a little more bearable when mother and daughter can go through her.

On this hard day my mother couldn't repair it, but she showed me that I wasn't alone, she had my back.

And if mom had dementia, I couldn't repair it. But I showed her that she wasn't alone, I had her back.

And now I'm doing the same for my daughter. There are difficult times when I can't repair it, but I am an ally. I love to pass it on to you.

This day with mom was really a best day.
