Illinois Governor JB Pritzker published an explanation and said: “I am horrified and deeply sad about the death of children and numerous injuries in Chatham this afternoon. Our community lost a group of bright and innocent young people with their whole life in front of them. The parents said goodbye to their children this morning. I knew the last time it would be. My heart is difficult for these families, and the unimaginable depreciation.

The Illinois State Police has started to work with the Chatham Police Department to examine the incident and will provide the public more information if it is available. My office monitors the situation closely and is ready to support every conceivable way. We are grateful for all first aiders who support our community in this difficult time. “
