Although the Death Metal resuscitation of the old school has been taking place for years, what about the latest spotlight? OSDM-headed publications of proggier bands like a modern version of a classic sound, such as Grave form And Terrible I saw huge underground recognition. And Blood culprit Started from the underground last year, with Elsewhere absolutely indiscriminately on almost every season list. Nostalgia is mainly supported by millennials and genes without a connection to the original acts and does not explain the recent explosion -it is not the same force that our parents sends into parity amphithic theaters in order to see mediocre tribute bands the same classic rock songs. Perhaps the renewed interest is a reaction against what some consider as increasingly sterile progressive music scene. This means that contrast to surgically precise, strictly technical, overproduced music that has lost her soul (Hey, I like this kind of music). It could be a wish to catch and build on the obvious sound aesthetics of the last 80s and early 90s -Death Metal -after all, and what comes out of fashion is often returned.

Whatever the cause may be, the swing behind this scene continues and another band has joined the fight. With your debut LP Ego resolutionMassachusetts Old death Call your arrival in a precise explanation of thirty -five minutes. Clear inspiration of Blood culpritIn addition to the Stalwarts of the early scene in Florida Deatha, these newcomers offer OSDM with a psychedelic curve and a slight progressive shimmer. Will the band join OSDM in Vogue under the metal underground of the new elite of the old school?

Ego resolution Could be easily confused for a release of the late 80s. Production is warm and clear, but not sanded and covered in paint – the surface is rough enough to let the big reefs of the album scratch your ears. In the meantime, a large part of the instrumentation runs the OSDM playbook. Most tracks have a combination of frenzied, technical but not “tech” riffing. Heavy segments with medium segments that are overlaid with early debt-like singing; and ripping guitar solos, but not in virtuoso guitar nerve path. Complement, and an active bass guitar growl below.

Old death'S psychedelic and advanced elements appear mainly through slower passages that contain granular synthesizers, gentle guitars and occasionally essential cleansing of the bass guitarist Jasmine Alexander. Instead of taking us full Tangerine dream or FloydIan -Umwege, à la Blood culpritThe latest album, these passages are shorter and are more naturally integrated into the tracks. The effect is enormous, which gives the music dimension and have hit the optimized Death Metal sections even harder. The atmospheric bridge in the middle of the ripping title track makes the track feel massive and completely. And the first half of “Breathe-Transcend” is simply fascinating, a relaxed vertebrae reserved guitars, enclosed rhythms and cave-like growls, which were complemented by Alexander's heavenly singing. For a complete dose of psychedelic atmosphere, the instrumental track seems to be “journey to the inner soul” Old deathTrippier, less technical answer to Death“S famous” cosmic sea “. Every time the band dares beyond the core death sound, they do this tastefully, the passages never sound for enforcement or out of place.

Naturally, Ego resolution is not particularly inventive. Old death Do not cause any problems spending your influences so that everyone can see. The album strives to remind these influences in a diverse, coherent track set without weaknesses and to turn them into a diverse, coherent sentence of tracks. For the same reason there is nothing that exaggerated the album: Ego resolution Doesn't quite the innovation or depth to be monumental, and it does not have to be necessary. Of course I would like to see Old death Push your sound further and delete more identity in future publications – you certainly have the necessary talent and the innate feeling for songwriting – but as far as the debut is concerned, it is remarkably complete.

Ultimately, Ego resolution is a resounding success. Old death Pack up an abundance of influences, along with your own character, into a coherent work that is as musically convincing as it is clearly fun. The album Rock is solid from front to back and its short term flies by and asks you to return directly to the start for another run. Just an album in, Old death Sit in the new School of Old School.
