Firefighters are reminiscent of the fact that arson is a serious crime

Jackson, Tenn. – In the middle of the fire protection week, the Tennessee Advisory Committee for arsonists (TACA) reminds the residents of reporting to the officials what information they may have about someone who is committing arson.

Fires caused by arson can lead to air pollution, long -term environmental damage and destruction of property.

The chosen Taca President Jeremy Woods said arson was not a crime without a victim and could endanger others and increase insurance prices.

With over 30,000 reported Arsons per year, Woods said that the damage was up to over one billion dollars.

“Arsung is not only a property crime. It is also a financial crime. Most people have insurance and that affects all of us,” said Woods.

The setting of abandoned buildings and other property may seem harmless, but Woods said that it could be the danger to individuals.

He said that if an arson is obliged, firefighters have to react, and the reaction could put firefighters and the general public in danger if they come to the streets to react to the fire. In addition, the firefighters put their lives in danger to fight the fire with abandoned buildings and even grass fires. Fires also fill toxins into the air that can cause long -term health effects on others.

“It is all things and liability and the people who are in danger every time we have to go to the fire engines,” said Woods.

Arson is a serious crime and could lead to immense financial losses and long prison terms if someone is convicted. In Tennessee you can get a cash prize for up to 5,000 US dollars with the right information if you give someone for arson.

“The arsonist hotline is 1-800-765-3017 and is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year,” said Woods.
