La. Officer killed by friendly fire during the search for suspects

Rayne, La.-Die Louisiana State Police, examines the death of a Rayne police officer on Monday.

On Monday at around 2 p.m., the police office was asked by Louisiana State Police of investigations by the Rayne police department to examine a shootout involved in the East Harrop Street, said Peggy Bourque, public information officer from Trooper First Class, in a press release.

A Rayne police officer was shot at the scene and declared dead, said Bourque.

No further details were published.

Social media commentators and at least one news agency reported that the official may have been kept with a suspect and was shot by another law enforcement officer.

31-year-old Nyjal Hurst from Jeanerette was charged by the Louisiana State Police in February due to murder's second degree on the death of Jolivette and with 10 attempted murder. Hurst was the man in the Jeanerette Mobilheim, who led to the shootout.
