Ky. School community that deals with another student of the student from a DUI-related crash

Columbia, Ky. (WKYT) – A school district from southern Kentucky deals with another death stove from which the police are a DUI -related crash.

Three children were injured on the east on Sunday morning when the police said David King walked off the street and hit a tree. The crash occurred in rural Sano Mt. Olive Road in Russell County near Adair County's line.

A 14-year-old died at the scene. Another middle school age student who was injured in this crash died last weekend.

Adair County's headmaster have got used to hearing tragic news this year.

“The person who bumped behind the wheel of this car had the choice and they did the wrong ones. As a result, we lost three students,” said Adair County Superintendent Jason Faulkner.

Three students died in two separate accidents, the police were caused by driving under the influence. A student died in what the police said was an accident caused by a drunk driver in December.

The youngest occurred on April 20 and claimed the life of the students of the Skyler Huckaby middle school and David King Jr. Huckaby died at the scene. King died after he was set for life preservation in the UK Medical Center.

The deaths brought the small town of Columbia closer together.

“We are blessed to live in a great community that has teamed up in others of these tragedies. Our community has teamed up for support. It is really a blessing and proof of our community,” said Faulkner.

David King, 31, from Columbia, is charged with vehicle murder, ruthless driving and no seat belts are wearing. He is in the Russell County prison. Officials say this is his third Dui crime.

A memorial service took place for Skyler Huckaby, in which many people took part, and Monday after the crash was very dark in the school district.

“The turnout that our students had, and the reaction of our students the day after, on the first day back to school, on Monday after Easter, it is heartbreaking. But they recognize how many lives had touched his life,” said Faulkner.

According to Faulkner, the message is to make better decisions.

“The decisions we make influence many other people. We have to learn from it. We have a prom and graduation. Administrators are worried about the nightball night and final night. We had two tragedies with bad decisions, bad decisions,” said Faulkner.

If there is something good that came out of the crash, the officials say, David King Jr. was an organ donor, and his death will lead to others being saved.

A third young person who was injured in the accident of April 20 was treated and released from his injuries. His name was not published, but he is a newcomer to the Adair County High School.
