Suspect denied Bond after being accused

Jackson, Miss. (WLBT) – A man who killed with a hammer for killing his mother in 2022 is now facing another suspicion of murder – this time because he supposedly killed an inmate in the Hinds County Detention Center.

Dekarius Funches is one of three people who are charged with the death of Anthony Jones for murder.

Jones was killed on April 22nd. Arrest warrants for Funches, Tyrell Snell and Mason Strate were exhibited at the beginning of this month.

The judge of the Hinds County, Johnnie McDaniels, declined Bond for Snell and Strate last week. And on Tuesday he played Bond for Funches.

McDaniels described all three danger to society, pointed to their earlier records and pending charges.

At the time when Jones was killed, Funches had been in prison for almost three years because he stole his mother in the 3200 block of Lakewood Drive and her car, a Nissan Rogue 2019.

Funches was charged with the indictment in December 2022, but according to court files, it is not yet necessary to go to the court.

The submissions in the Mississippi Electronic Courts database show that five times have been continued since December. The latest sequel was granted on April 9th. The judge Debra Gibbs has postponed the process until July 21.

Days later, on April 23, Gibbs submitted an order that funches are subjected to a mental assessment to determine whether he is competent to start legal proceedings.

  • August 9, 2024 – Process -finished on October 7, 2024; Lawyers are not ready

  • April 23, 2025 – Command for the mental assessment, which was granted by judge Debra Gibbs

Meanwhile, Snell was charged with several charges for murder of Jones, including serious bodily harm, because he had supposedly cut off the ear of a fellow coil on or around March 5.

An affidavit submitted on March 13th shows that Snell Joshua Tyrone Bogans cut left ears with a knife while he is housed in the Raymond Detention Center.

McDaniel's Bond for Snell refused to accuse Snell, citing pending charges.

On May 2, Snell appeared again in front of McDaniels, and the bond was refused again. This time McDaniels wrote, Snell was a “danger for [the] Community. ”

Further charges of Snell include car theft, armed carjacking and difficult attacks.

The earlier charges of Strat include escape and serious bodily harm. The latter also counted on a suspected incident at RDC.

An arrest warrant against Strate was issued in August after 21-year-old Joshua Banks allegedly hit a metal tube and had injured his left eye.

McDaniel determined his bond at 5,000 US dollars and tied the case to the Grand Jury.
