Iowa State Athletics mourns employees who were killed in the crash of Kansas Highway

Ames, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa State Athletics mourns the loss of the loss of an employee who died in an accident on Highway 169 in Kansas at the weekend.

The crash took place on Sunday in Franklin County, southeast of Topeka, shortly before 5.45 p.m.

A crash report says that the crash occurred when an SUV tried to pass a slower vehicle that collided with a car with his head.

All four people died in the car, including the driver, 37-year-old Alexander Ernst von Ames.

Four people also died in the SUV.

One is in the hospital.

The SUV wore a youth basketball team and family members to Tulsa.

A man remembers the moment of crash.

“So, I didn't see anything or heard until I turned away from the closure of the gate and saw a huge cloud of smoke. So I drove down the street, came down there to the stop sign and just saw a number of cars.” said Blane Siebert.

The driver of the car, Ernst, was a specialist for football video production at Iowa State University.

Ernst began as a student at the university and moved to a full -time position after completing his completion.

“We are broken by this news,” said Matt Campbell, head coach of Iowa State. “Alex was an important and valued member of our football family and had a special relationship with so many in our program. He was exceptional in his job and was very proud of what he did. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by this tragedy.”
