Conroe ISD students have teamed up to demand action while mourning the death of classmates

Montgomery County, Texas – The students of Conroe Independent School District combine to call for measures after the tragic death of a classmate.

The victim, a 16-year-old junior at Woodland's College Park High School, took life on the I-45 and the Highway 242 overpass.

“He was a junior in the high school – not even 18 years old – and he had taken his own life.

This incident is the second time in nine months that a current or former school of the school died in a similar way.

Lacy Tinnell, a junior at College Park High, initiated a petition from Change.org, which dealt with the installation of life -saving barriers or fences on the transfer, in the hope of preventing future tragedies.

The petition has received more than 13,000 signatures, but it is the warm letter that has found many response.

“It was a way of expressing me,” said Tinnell. “I decided that it should be shared. I posted this with the intention that on my little audience on my Instagram, my friends from school, I only go to my small amount, and that it would help you. And it really blew up.”

The petition was attentive to the attention of the judge of Montgomery County, Mark Keough, who formally asked that the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) installs additional obstacles and containment fences along both transfer.

“Obviously, this will not end the suicide problem,” said Tinnell. “But hopefully it will only create a buffer, a few more moments. If this is not an option, you can create another day, another chance for someone to contact another, another opportunity to decide for you that he would like to live again.”

When Tinnell was asked about her petition about the judge's reaction, he expressed her emotional reaction.

“When I saw the message and she read, I immediately started crying tears of joy,” she said. “It is so regrettable that it has happened and that it takes these tragedies to bring us to a point of change. However, local authorities recognize that it is a problem and that something has to be done, only the first step to recognize people with more power than teenagers.”

Judge Keough confirmed that he has a meeting with TXDOT to discuss the problem and is committed to ensuring that changes are made.
