Houses that were evacuated due to a “large” gas leak in the SW Portland district

The houses were evacuated on Tuesday morning due to a large gas leaf in Southwest port.

Portland Fire Crews responded to the scene in the 4700 block of the SW Flower Court in the Hayhurst district. According to investigators, a tree team accidentally cut out an underground gas line, which caused the leak. All houses nearby were evacuated as a precaution.

The situation was evaluated at a potential risk of gas migration, said the firefighters of Portland. There were no measurements of natural gas in four of the houses that were closest to the leak.

Repair teams with Northwest Natural are on site and have started to limit the leak. Firefighters said that the situation was no longer considered a great threat shortly after the arrival of the northwestern natural crews.

Since then, the residents have been able to return home. No injuries were reported.
