Primary school bullying caught on video, Inglewood mother demands answers

A mother speaks and directs the bullying that her daughters met at school.

What we know:

The child's mother shared a video with FOX 11 of a recent fight at the Woodworth Monroe Academy in Inglewood.

The disturbing video shows a 10-year-old student who crouched in the corner of the bathroom when a group of girls mock her. Finally, another little girl pulls her hair and hits her while others cheer on and take the incident on video.

The incident on April 30 is not the first bullying incident, said the mother of the 10-year-old girl, Beatriz Hernandez. She told Fox 11 that her children died three years ago from a heart attack at work.

“Since my husband died, they have been bullied and told them 'Oh your father died, hahaha'. It's so fun for her,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez showed Fox 11, a report that was submitted to the Inglewood Unified School Police from December 2023 and reported bullying against her daughters.

According to the report, a girl was forced to eat hot chili peppers. The report also described an incident in which the girls had thrown milk and water on them while they went with their grandma.

The incident on April 30 occurred at the end of the school day. The 10-year-old had run into the bathroom while her two siblings and grandmother were waiting for school in front of school to go home. Then she came across the group of children who were waiting for them.

“My daughter was pulled, she was literally pulled,” said Beatriz Hernandez. “Although it is another little girl, it is still bad. How was it so bad when school knew nothing about it when I went to them several times because my daughters were bullied.”

This is apparently the same group of children they thrown with milk.

In this latest incident, the daughter was suspended by Hernandez for “involved in a fight”. School officials were not told whether the other girls received any punishment.

The other side:

In two statements about Fox 11, school officers said that the recent incident was being examined.

The Inglewood Unified School District published the following statements. “On Wednesday, April 30th, an incident occurred with students after the school at the Woodworth Monroe School. Emily Ruby with Greenberg & Ruby, a company who cares for legal cases with bullying at school, says she sees younger and younger children who are involved in bullying incidents where there seems to be a feeling that nothing will happen to them.

She also sees that in more cases the videos on social media are behind the incidents.

However, California law is stronger than the rest of the country, partly thanks to Seth's law, which in 2012 asked for public schools to update their anti-bullying guidelines and programs, whereby the focus was on protecting students that are bullied.

Hernandez said she was fed up with going to the school police and submitted a report to the Inglewood police.
