Pickle Darling starts new video game

Ōtautahis Lukas Mayo, also known as Pickle Darling, takes her LO-Fi sound into the digital world with a new game.

Mayo has teamed up with the visual artist Christiane Shortal (known for her work with tiny ruins and mausy). He started. Cucumbers Darling: The game -A nostalgic experience with low-fiction, in which the players pursue a lost album. With retro visuals and a stripped design, it fits perfectly with the Mayo DIY style.

The game contains 8-bit repetitions of cucumber-Darling tracks, including “Bicycle Weather”, “King of Joy” and “Invercargill Angel”. These tracks specially created for the game are also divided on TikK and Instagram to give fans the opportunity to get their own digital creations on soundtrack.

Mayo explains: “This game is a small look behind the curtain of what goes into a publication by Pickle Darling album (and what can).”

Cucumbers Darling: The game is now available on time for the NZ Music Month/Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa to play on ITCH.IO.

Mayo's last publication, Laundry (2023), which was published by father/daughter records, marked a breakthrough beyond the bedroom after having shared excellent gemstones on band camp for years. The thoughtful album praised his vulnerable LO-Fi pop and the attention to detail.

“Mayo follows in the great tradition of the Aotearoa bands like Tall Dwarfs and creates vulnerable LO-Fi-Pop vignettes who are rich in small details,” was our five-star review of the album. “Mayo has an Akerman-like feeling for Quotidian beauty: Art as you know is everywhere in life and her serious existentialism flows through directly Laundry. “”

The audience also heard how Mayo had teamed up with the Beths to find a surprise cover of the “Brand New Colony” of the postal service, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of Give up.

Here you can see Pickle Darling's full “in My Room” session, which contains the reproduction of “in Good Health”, the title track and “Invercargill Angel” Lashing salon.
