A kayaking in Florida's Lake Kissimmee was attacked and killed by an alligator on Tuesday.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said that the incident was at around 4 p.m. near the mouth of the Tiger Creek in Polk County reported, news 6 reported.

The FWC said that every contact was lost with the woman when she went into the water until her body was later recovered nearby.

Both the FWC officials and the MPs of the Sheriff from Polk County reacted to the incident that will continue to be examined.

“Preliminary information indicates that a woman was canoeing when she pushed an alligator and went into the water,” said a FWC spokesman.

“The woman was later recovered from the water and is declared deceased.”

The Alligator involved in the attack has not yet been found. According to News 6, a disturbing Alligator Trapper was sent to the area.

Alligator attacks on humans are rare, but several are reported in Florida every year.

According to the FWC, there are around 1.3 million alligators in the state. A total of 11 attacks in humans were reported in 2024 and 23 in 2023, one of which was fatal.

Since 1948, the FWC has recorded over 450 alligator attacks on humans, including around 30 incidents that have led to the death of a person.
